One Killed, Two Seriously Injured In Thane Auto-Rickshaw Collision
Auto-rickshaw crashes into water tanker in Thane; one dead, two hospitalized.
A tragic accident in Maharashtra's Thane city claimed one life and left two others critically injured when an auto-rickshaw collided with a stationary water tanker late Sunday night. The incident, which occurred shortly before midnight near the Nitin Company-Cadbury Junction on the Eastern Express Highway, highlights the perils of nighttime travel on busy urban routes. Officials from the Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell confirmed the details, noting the swift response from emergency services to mitigate further harm.
The three passengers in the auto-rickshaw were trapped inside the mangled vehicle following the high-impact crash. Fire brigade personnel arrived promptly and worked for approximately half an hour to extricate the victims using specialized tools. The rapid mobilization of rescue teams underscored the preparedness of local authorities in handling such emergencies in a densely populated area like Thane, a key suburb of Mumbai.
At a nearby government hospital, one victim, identified as Bablu, was pronounced dead on arrival due to severe injuries sustained in the collision. The other two, aged 56 and 29, were in serious condition and required advanced care. They were immediately transferred to Sion Hospital in neighboring Mumbai for specialized treatment, where medical teams are working to stabilize them.

The accident briefly disrupted traffic on the congested Eastern Express Highway, a vital artery connecting Thane to Mumbai. Authorities cleared the damaged auto-rickshaw and tanker swiftly, restoring normal flow within hours. Investigations into the cause are underway, with preliminary reports suggesting possible speeding or poor visibility as factors.
