Nitish Kumar Pledges Continued NDA Alliance In Presence Of PM Modi
Bihar CM assures PM Modi he will stay in NDA, distancing himself from the RJD-Congress past.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday reaffirmed his commitment to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), declaring he would remain with the coalition “henceforth” while expressing regret over his brief alliances with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress. Speaking at a public rally in Purnea alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi, weeks before the anticipated announcement of Bihar’s assembly elections, Kumar accused the RJD-Congress combine of “always indulging in mischief” during their shared tenures in power.
Reflecting on his political journey, Kumar recalled the formation of the Janata Dal (United)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Bihar in November 2005. He admitted to temporarily aligning with the RJD-Congress twice, influenced by some JD(U) colleagues, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh ‘Lalan’, whom he replaced as party president nearly two years ago. Pointing to Lalan at the rally, Kumar said, “I went to the other side, but I could never be comfortable with those people.”
Kumar’s return to the NDA in January 2024, after a brief stint with the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan, marks his latest political shift. His pledge to stay with the NDA, met with applause and a smile from Modi, signals a strategic consolidation ahead of the polls expected in early 2026. The JD(U) chief’s remarks underscore ongoing tensions with the opposition as Bihar braces for a high-stakes electoral battle.

The rally, attended by thousands, highlighted the NDA’s unified front in Bihar, with Kumar emphasising governance and stability under the alliance. Political analysts view his statement as an effort to reassure voters and allies of his loyalty to the NDA amid a history of switching coalitions that has drawn criticism.
