"My Family Betrayed Our Love—Then Killed Him": Woman 'Marries' Lover's Corpse After Caste Murder
Anchal Mamidwar accuses family and police of Saksham Tate's brutal killing over inter-caste romance in Nanded.
In a heart-wrenching tale of forbidden love turned tragedy, 21-year-old Anchal Mamidwar from Maharashtra's Nanded district performed a symbolic "wedding" with the corpse of her 20-year-old boyfriend Saksham Tate before his funeral rites on Thursday. The couple, in a relationship for three years after connecting via Instagram, faced fierce opposition from Anchal's family due to caste differences—Anchal from the Special Backward Class and Saksham from a Dalit background. Viral videos show Anchal applying turmeric and vermilion to Saksham's body, declaring, "Our love won, even in death," as she vows to live with his family as their daughter-in-law.
Anchal alleges her family feigned acceptance, assuring the couple of wedding plans while plotting Saksham's murder. On Thursday evening in Juna Ganj, her brother Himesh Mamidwar initiated a confrontation with Saksham and his friends, allegedly shooting him in the ribs before smashing a tile on his head, killing him instantly. Himesh, brother Sahil, father Gajanan Mamidwar, and three others—some with criminal records—have been arrested within 12 hours and charged under BNS for murder, unlawful assembly, rioting, SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, and Arms Act. Anchal claims her family derogatorily called Saksham a "Jai Bhimwala" and pressured him to convert religions.
Compounding the horror, Anchal accuses two local policemen, Dheeraj Komalwar and Maheet Asarwar, of inciting the attack. She recounts being taken to the station that morning, where her brother demanded a false complaint against Saksham; the officers allegedly dared, "You've killed before—why not kill your sister's lover too?" Her brother reportedly replied he'd do it by evening. Anchal, now disowned by her family who slammed doors on her, questions public trust in such police conduct. Saksham also had a criminal record, but the motive remains caste-driven honor killing.

Anchal demands the death penalty for the accused, stating, "They are gangsters who threatened Saksham for daring to love me." Saksham's family has embraced her, with his mother expressing support amid public outrage. Political figures like Adv. Gunratna Sadavarte and Jayashri Patil visited, urging swift justice. Nanded police confirm rapid arrests, but the case highlights persistent caste violence in Maharashtra.
This incident reignites debates on honor killings, with Anchal's defiance symbolizing resistance against caste barriers. She affirms, "People should not be killed over caste," as investigations continue amid statewide attention.
