Murder Accused Posing as "Peer Baba" Arrested by Hyderabad Police
Murder accused disguised as Peer Baba arrested by Hyderabad police.
A man accused in a murder case who had allegedly been evading arrest for more than a year by posing as a "Peer Baba" has been arrested by the Hyderabad Commissioner's Task Force. Police said the accused, identified as 33-year-old Mohd. Shaik Javed, had been absconding since June 2025 and was wanted in connection with a 2018 murder case. He was apprehended on Tuesday following a coordinated operation based on specific intelligence inputs.
According to the police, Javed had been evading a Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued by a court while the murder case against him remained under trial. Investigators said he disappeared from Hyderabad after June 5, 2025, and managed to avoid arrest for over a year by frequently changing his whereabouts. The Task Force eventually tracked his movements and located him in Sangareddy district.
Police alleged that after relocating to Sangareddy in January 2026, Javed altered his appearance and began posing as a "Peer Baba" to conceal his identity. He reportedly worked as a priest at the Jindesha Madar Dargah while living under the assumed identity. Investigators believe the disguise was deliberately adopted to mislead law enforcement agencies and avoid detection while remaining away from Hyderabad.

Acting on specific intelligence, officers from the Hyderabad Commissioner's Task Force, in coordination with local police, conducted an operation that resulted in Javed's arrest. During the search, police recovered 115 grams of dry ganja (cannabis) along with the attire allegedly used by the accused to maintain his disguise. The seized items have been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
During preliminary interrogation, police said Javed admitted to assuming the identity of a Peer Baba in an attempt to evade arrest. Investigators are continuing to question him regarding his activities while he was absconding and whether he received any assistance in avoiding law enforcement. Authorities are also examining the circumstances surrounding his stay in Sangareddy and any possible offences committed during that period.
Following his arrest, the accused was produced before the appropriate court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police said further investigation into the case is underway, while proceedings in the pending 2018 murder case will continue in accordance with the law. The arrest brings to an end a year-long search for an accused who had allegedly remained hidden by living under a false identity.
