Ketan Agarwal Murder Case: Pune Court Extends Police Custody For Suspects Till July 3
Pune court extends police custody for Agarwal murder suspects to July 3.
A court in Pune on Monday extended the police custody of Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, until July 3 in connection with the murder of 25-year-old businessman Ketan Agarwal. The extension was granted after both accused were produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class court at Vadgaon Maval. Investigators told the court that further custodial interrogation was required as the probe into the murder case continued.
Judicial Magistrate First Class A. M. Vibhute heard submissions from both the prosecution and the defence before extending the police custody. During the hearing, the prosecution argued that investigators were still collecting crucial evidence and needed additional time to verify facts, examine electronic records and establish the sequence of events surrounding the alleged murder. The defence also presented its arguments before the court delivered its order.
The case relates to the death of Ketan Agarwal on June 18 during a visit to Lohagad Fort in Pune district. Initially, the Lonavala Rural Police suspected that Agarwal had accidentally fallen into a valley while visiting the historic fort. However, as the investigation progressed, police said fresh evidence led them to suspect foul play, prompting a shift in the direction of the probe.

On June 23, police arrested Agarwal's fiancée, Siya Goyal, 20, and Chetan Chaudhary, 22, on charges of murder. Both accused were subsequently remanded to police custody until June 29 to facilitate further investigation. Authorities have since been examining the circumstances leading to the incident, including the movements of the accused and the victim before the alleged crime.
As part of the investigation, police recently recreated the crime scene at Lohagad Fort in the presence of Siya Goyal. The exercise was carried out to reconstruct the sequence of events and verify statements made during questioning. Investigators are also examining forensic evidence, witness testimonies and other material collected during the course of the investigation to strengthen the case.
The extension of police custody will allow investigators to continue questioning the accused and complete pending aspects of the probe before filing further reports before the court. Police have not disclosed additional details regarding the evidence collected so far, stating that the investigation remains active. The case has attracted significant public attention due to the allegations involving the victim's fiancée and the evolving findings of the investigation.
