Kerala Principal Office CCTV Shows Moments Before Dalit Student’s Death
CCTV footage shows moments before a Dalit student’s death in Kerala principal’s office.
A CCTV footage from inside a college principal’s office has emerged in connection with the death of a Dalit student, capturing the final moments of interaction between the student and faculty members shortly before the incident that led to his death, according to investigative reports.
The visuals, accessed from inside the principal’s room at Anjarakandy Dental College in Kannur, reportedly show the student—identified as Nithin Raj—engaging in a discussion with teachers and administrative staff regarding a financial matter linked to repeated calls from a loan recovery agent. The footage is being examined as part of a broader investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to reports based on the CCTV recording, teachers were in communication with representatives of a digital lending application that had allegedly been making persistent recovery calls connected to a loan taken in the student’s name. The footage is said to show the student explaining his situation inside the office while staff members attempted to address the issue.

Investigators have also noted that the student appeared visibly distressed during the interaction. In another segment of the footage, he is seen leaving the room, with officials treating this movement as a key detail in reconstructing the sequence of events that followed. Authorities believe these visuals could help establish the timeline leading up to his death.
The case has drawn significant attention in Kerala, with allegations from the student’s family and peers pointing to possible harassment, financial pressure, and emotional distress. Police have already registered a case of unnatural death and are probing multiple angles, including institutional responsibility and the role of external loan recovery agents.
The college administration has stated that the student was called to the principal’s office after repeated harassment calls from the recovery agents began affecting staff as well. Officials maintain that they were attempting to mediate the situation when the incident escalated beyond control.
As the investigation continues, authorities are analysing CCTV footage, phone records, and witness statements to determine the exact sequence of events. The case has sparked wider debate over student mental health pressures, aggressive digital lending practices, and alleged institutional lapses in handling crises.
