Close aide of Nashik godman Ashok Kharat and his wife killed in a road crash.
A close associate of Nashik-based self-styled godman Ashok Kharat and his wife died in a road accident after their car crashed into a truck on the Samruddhi Expressway, police said, in a fatal incident that has triggered further scrutiny due to the couple’s reported links to ongoing investigations involving the controversial spiritual figure.
The deceased have been identified as Jitendra Shelke, a senior associate of Kharat, and his wife. According to police officials, the accident took place when their vehicle rammed into a container truck on the busy expressway stretch, resulting in a severe impact that left both occupants critically injured. They were declared dead after being rushed to a nearby hospital.
Shelke was reportedly a key aide and held an important position in a trust associated with Kharat, who is currently facing multiple serious criminal allegations and is under investigation by enforcement agencies. Authorities said Shelke’s role in the organisation made him a significant figure within the godman’s network of associates.

Preliminary reports suggest the vehicle collided with a heavy truck on the expressway, but officials have not yet confirmed whether negligence, speeding, or external factors contributed to the accident. A detailed crash analysis is expected to be conducted with the help of transport authorities.
The incident comes amid heightened attention on Ashok Kharat and his associates due to ongoing legal and financial investigations, with authorities continuing to probe multiple aspects of his network. Police have said further findings will be shared once the inquiry into the accident is complete.
