Kapil Sharma’s Security Tightened After Canada Cafe Attacks
Bishnoi gang threatens Mumbai action
Mumbai Police have significantly increased security for actor-comedian Kapil Sharma following two shooting incidents at his Kap’s Cafe in Surrey, Canada, and explicit threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang linked to his association with Salman Khan. The attacks, on July 10 and August 8, 2025, targeted the cafe co-owned by Sharma and his wife, Ginni Chatrath, with the latest involving over 25 gunshots, damaging windows but causing no injuries, per Surrey Police Service.
A viral audio clip from gang member Harry Boxer claimed the August 8 attack was retaliation for Sharma inviting Salman Khan to the cafe’s July 4 opening and featuring him on The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3 premiere on June 21. “Anyone who works with Salman—actors, producers, directors—will not be spared,” Boxer warned, threatening further action in Mumbai if Sharma doesn’t comply. Goldy Dhillon, a Bishnoi associate wanted by Punjab Police and NIA for extortion and murder, also claimed responsibility via a Facebook post, stating, “We called him, but he didn’t answer, so we took action.”
The Bishnoi gang’s vendetta stems from Salman Khan’s 1998 blackbuck poaching case, as the community considers the animal sacred. Khan has faced heightened security since a shooting outside his Bandra residence on April 14, 2024. Sharma, questioned by Mumbai’s Crime Branch, denied receiving direct threats or extortion calls. Police have deployed plainclothes officers around Sharma’s home and shooting sets, with coordination ongoing with Canadian authorities.

The July 10 attack, attributed to Harjeet Singh Laddi of Babbar Khalsa International, cited Sharma’s alleged offensive Sikh jokes, though the Bishnoi gang’s claims dominate the recent narrative. The All Indian Cine Workers Association condemned the attacks, urging Home Minister Amit Shah for intervention, calling them an assault on the Indian film industry. X posts, including from @AdityaRajKaul, criticized Canadian police for security lapses, while @Snehalsays_03 questioned India’s response.
Mumbai Police, having arrested five Bishnoi-linked suspects in Cotton Green with weapons on August 6, are probing potential reconnaissance around Sharma’s properties. With the gang’s history of targeting Khan’s associates, the entertainment industry braces for heightened vigilance as investigations continue.
