#BreakingNews: Russian Man Kills Two Women in Goa Over Rs 100 Crown and Unpaid Debts

Aleksei Leonov allegedly murdered two Russian women in Goa over petty unpaid debts.

A Russian national, Aleksei Leonov, has been accused of brutally murdering two fellow Russian women in separate incidents in Goa on January 14 and 15, 2026. The victims, identified as Elena Vaneeva and Elena Kasthanova, were reportedly killed by having their throats slit in their respective rooms. Senior Goa Police sources revealed to NDTV that the killings stemmed from remarkably minor disputes: one woman had borrowed money from Leonov and failed to repay it, while the other had not returned a cheap rubber crown valued at just Rs 100 that she had borrowed from him.

According to police insiders, the murders were not premeditated but rather impulsive acts triggered by Leonov’s intense frustration over these small unpaid items. Sources described the  accused as “overly obsessed” and someone who could become easily agitated, suggesting that the refusal to return the money and the crown pushed him to extreme violence within a short span of two days. The rapid succession of the killings has shocked local authorities and the expatriate Russian community in the tourist-heavy state.

The Goa Police are treating the cases as targeted homicides linked directly to personal grudges rather than any broader criminal pattern. Investigators believe Leonov acted alone, and the absence of planning points to a crime of passion fueled by perceived betrayal over trivial amounts. Both crime scenes were discovered shortly after the attacks, prompting swift police response and the subsequent identification of Leonov as the prime suspect.

The incident has once again spotlighted safety concerns for tourists and residents in Goa, particularly within tight-knit foreign communities where small financial or personal disputes can escalate dangerously. Authorities are continuing their probe to establish the full sequence of events, recover any forensic evidence, and determine Leonov’s current whereabouts or possible attempts to flee the country.

This tragic episode underscores how seemingly insignificant disagreements—over a modest sum of money and an inexpensive party accessory—can spiral into fatal violence when combined with an individual prone to obsession and sudden rage.
