Hyderabad Road Rage: AIMIM Leader Charged in Brutal Attack

Viral Video Exposes Cricket Bat Assault

A shocking road rage incident in Hyderabad’s Bandlaguda has led to the arrest of AIMIM ward member Mohammad Zakki (30) and Md Abdul Safi (18), along with the apprehension of a 17-year-old juvenile, for allegedly assaulting two men with a cricket bat. The attack, captured in a viral video, occurred on August 24 near Savera Hotel at a U-turn in Jahangirabad, sparking outrage across social media.

The incident began when Zakki’s car reportedly brushed against a scooty ridden by Syed Abed and his friend Syed Yousuf, both welders. Despite no visible damage to either vehicle, the situation escalated rapidly. The video shows Zakki punching Abed, who had fallen off his scooty, while Safi and the juvenile joined in, with one wielding a plastic cricket bat and another kicking the victim. A bystander, recording the assault, alerted Chandrayangutta police, narrating the chaos as Abed and Yousuf sustained bleeding injuries.

Abed’s complaint detailed how Zakki and his associates attacked them without provocation, leaving both victims hospitalized. Bandlaguda Police, led by Inspector R. Devender, used CCTV footage to identify the accused, who confessed during interrogation. A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 118(1) (causing hurt), 125(a) (endangering safety), 126 (wrongful restraint), 324 (mischief), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 read with 3(5) (joint criminal liability). Notices were issued under Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and the juvenile was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.

This incident follows a pattern of road rage cases in Hyderabad, with a 2024 case involving a man beaten to death in a similar altercation. The AIMIM, under scrutiny for past controversies involving its members, faces criticism as Zakki’s involvement adds to the party’s legal troubles. Police are probing whether the accused have prior records, with further investigations ongoing to ensure justice for the victims.
