Hyderabad housewife murdered by domestic helpers in brutal robbery.
In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through Hyderabad, a 50-year-old woman was brutally murdered in her apartment at the Swan Lake Condominium in Kukatpally on Wednesday, September 10, 2025. The victim, identified as Renu Agarwal, was allegedly tied up, beaten with a pressure cooker, and stabbed multiple times with knives and scissors by two domestic helpers, who then fled with approximately Rs 1 lakh in cash and gold ornaments worth four tola.
The gruesome crime occurred between 3:00 PM and 4:30 PM, when Renu Agarwal was alone in her flat. Her husband, Rakesh Agarwal, a steel businessman, and their son had left for their shop in Fatehnagar earlier that morning, leaving her vulnerable. The prime suspect, Harsha, a 21-year-old from Jharkhand, had been employed by the Agarwal family just 11 days prior through a manpower agency based in Kolkata. Harsha, along with his accomplice, Roushan, who worked as a domestic helper in a neighboring flat, is accused of carrying out the attack.
According to police reports, the assailants tortured Renu Agarwal to extract the location of valuables, striking her on the head with a pressure cooker before tying her hands and legs and inflicting fatal stab wounds. After looting the residence, the duo reportedly bathed in the apartment to remove evidence, changed into fresh clothes, and fled on a two-wheeler belonging to Roushan’s employer. CCTV footage captured the suspects leaving the 13th-floor apartment at 5:02 PM, heading toward KPHB Colony.

The crime came to light when Rakesh Agarwal, unable to reach his wife by phone, returned home around 5:00 PM to find the door locked. With the help of a plumber, he entered through the balcony and discovered Renu’s body in a pool of blood. The Kukatpally police were immediately notified and have since launched a manhunt, forming five special teams to apprehend the suspects. One team has been dispatched to a village near Ranchi, Jharkhand, where the suspects are believed to have fled.
Authorities are analyzing CCTV footage and call detail records (CDR) to track the absconding suspects. Fingerprint evidence has also been collected from the crime scene. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are ongoing to uncover further details.
The incident has sparked outrage, with local leaders like Kukatpally BRS MLA Madhavaram Krishna Rao criticizing the police response and alleging that the crime was planned over the preceding ten days. The Agarwal family, originally from Kolkata, is reeling from the tragedy, as the city grapples with the brutality of a crime committed by individuals entrusted with domestic responsibilities.
