Woman Murders Husband and Hides Body at Home in Dhanbad
Woman kills husband, buries body in home for days in Dhanbad.
In a chilling incident in Jharkhand’s Dhanbad district, a 42-year-old tribal woman, Surji Majhiyain, was arrested on September 5, 2025, for allegedly murdering her 45-year-old husband, Suresh Hansda, and burying his body inside their home in Tilaiyatan village, under the Tundi police station jurisdiction. The gruesome crime, which went undetected for over 10 days, came to light after neighbors and relatives grew suspicious due to a foul odor emanating from the house and the woman’s inconsistent explanations about her husband’s absence.
According to Tundi police station in-charge Uma Shankar, Surji confessed to killing Suresh following a heated argument, driven by her frustration with his alleged alcoholism and extramarital affairs. She admitted to using a lathi (stick) and a sickle to commit the murder, after which she dug a pit inside a room of their thatched mud house to conceal the body. The police are working to recover the weapons used in the crime. The case unraveled when Suresh’s absence at his uncle’s funeral, held 10 days prior, raised alarms among relatives, who then noticed the foul smell and alerted authorities on Friday evening.
Following Surji’s confession under strict interrogation, the police sealed the room and requested a magistrate from the district administration to oversee the exhumation of Suresh’s body on September 6, 2025. The body will be sent to Shahid Nirmal Mahato Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact date and cause of death. Neighbors and relatives corroborated that Suresh had been missing for over 10 days, with some reports suggesting prior attempts by Surji to harm him, including poisoning his food and attacking him with an axe.

The incident has sent shockwaves through Tilaiyatan village, with locals gathering at the site as police continue their investigation. Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to clarify the timeline and further details of this disturbing crime.
