Himachal Hospitals Evacuated After Bomb Threat Emails
Two hospitals evacuated after chilling bomb threat emails.
Panic gripped Himachal Pradesh on Tuesday as two major hospitals—Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College and Hospital in Ner Chowk, Mandi district, and Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College in Chamba district—received bomb threat emails, prompting immediate evacuations and heightened security measures. The threatening emails ominously claimed that “four RDX 800-silicon base fuses are purposely doped” to cause minimal casualties, sending authorities into swift action to ensure public safety.
Mandi Headquarters DSP Dinesh Kumar confirmed that the areas surrounding both hospitals were cordoned off, with bomb disposal squads and dog squads deployed to scour the premises for any suspicious devices. “The entire area has been secured, and a thorough search is underway,” Kumar stated, emphasizing that all standard protocols were being followed to safeguard patients, staff, and visitors. The hospitals were evacuated promptly, with patients and personnel relocated to safe zones as a precautionary measure.
The incident follows a disturbing pattern of bomb threats targeting key institutions in Himachal Pradesh earlier this year, including the State Secretariat, High Court, and the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mandi. Those threats, which caused widespread alarm, were later confirmed to be hoaxes. Authorities suspect the latest emails may follow a similar pattern but are treating the situation with utmost seriousness, given the potential risks to public safety.

The police, in coordination with cybercrime units, are investigating the origin of the threatening emails to determine their authenticity and identify the perpetrators. The evacuations disrupted hospital operations, with patients and families expressing anxiety over the sudden crisis. As searches continue, officials have urged the public to remain calm while reinforcing security across other critical infrastructure in the state to prevent further incidents. The recurring nature of such threats has raised concerns about vulnerabilities in public safety systems, prompting calls for stronger cybersecurity measures to counter hoax-driven disruptions.
