Gangster’s Son Nabbed for Fake Property Documents
Umar Ansari arrested for forging papers to reclaim assets.
Umar Ansari, son of the late gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari, was arrested in Lucknow on Sunday for allegedly submitting forged documents in court to recover his father’s seized properties. The properties, located in Ghazipur, were confiscated under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act due to Mukhtar’s extensive criminal record. Mukhtar, a notorious figure with over 60 criminal cases, died of a cardiac arrest in March 2025 at a hospital in Banda, Uttar Pradesh, while serving a sentence.
The Ghazipur Superintendent of Police stated that Umar filed a petition in court to release the seized assets, which included valuable real estate linked to his father’s illicit activities. Authorities allege Umar used fraudulent documents, including forged signatures of his mother, Afshan Ansari, to deceive the court and secure illegal financial gains.
Afshan, who is currently absconding, faces a Rs 50,000 reward for information leading to her capture. “Upon discovering the fraudulent activity, a case was registered against Umar Ansari at Mohammadabad police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS),” the police statement read.
A specialized team from Ghazipur police tracked and apprehended Umar in Lucknow following an investigation into the forged documents. The probe is ongoing, with authorities examining the extent of the forgery and potential accomplices. Police sources indicate that the seized properties, valued at crores, were part of Mukhtar’s sprawling empire, built through alleged extortion, illegal land deals, and other criminal enterprises.
The case has drawn significant attention due to Mukhtar’s high-profile status as a former five-time MLA and his long-standing influence in eastern Uttar Pradesh’s criminal and political circles.
