Family Alleges Husband’s Affair And Assault In Punjab Doctor Death Case
Family alleges affair and assault led to Punjab doctor’s suspicious death.
A woman doctor was found dead at her residence in Jalandhar, Punjab, in an incident that has triggered serious allegations from her family, who have accused her estranged husband of mental and physical harassment. Police said Dr Meenakshi was discovered hanging inside her locked room on Wednesday, after officials broke into the house through a window to gain entry.
According to police and family statements, Dr Meenakshi had been living separately from her husband, Dr Piyush, a fellow doctor and owner of National Eye Hospital in Jalandhar, since July 2025. Her family alleged that she had been subjected to ongoing physical assault and emotional abuse, which ultimately forced her to live alone. They further claimed she had been planning to pursue a divorce.
The family has also made allegations regarding an extramarital relationship involving Dr Piyush and a nurse employed at his hospital. They claimed that Dr Meenakshi had discovered evidence of the alleged affair through CCTV footage, which led to increasing tensions within the marriage. Following this, the family alleged that the husband continued to physically assault her, though these claims have not yet been independently verified by authorities.

They said she was preparing to buy a house and had only recently learned of the financial irregularities.
Police have registered a case based on the family’s complaint and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. Officials said Dr Piyush’s phone is currently switched off and he has not yet been questioned. Authorities added that the exact cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem examination, while further inquiry is underway into the allegations made by the family.
