Eight Arrested In Ahmedabad Cybercrime Case Involving Online Stalking Of Women

The Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch has arrested eight people, including a woman, in connection with alleged online harassment, cyberstalking and identity theft targeting women. The arrests were made as part of Mission Cyber Rakshika, an initiative aimed at improving the safety of women in digital spaces and addressing cases of cybercrime involving social media platforms.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior police officials, with specialised teams formed to identify and track the suspects. Investigators followed digital leads across several districts in Gujarat and Rajasthan before locating and apprehending the accused. Police said the action was initiated after several women approached the Cyber Crime unit with complaints about persistent online harassment and misuse of their personal information.

According to the police, the complaints involved the creation of fake social media profiles, the circulation of objectionable messages or media, identity theft and cyberbullying. The suspects allegedly targeted women who maintained public profiles on social media platforms, making it possible for perpetrators to access publicly available information and use it for harassment or other forms of online abuse.

The cybercrime unit said female police officers interacted with the complainants and conducted counselling sessions as part of the investigation. Following the complaints and subsequent inquiry, 11 separate First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered. Authorities also maintained the confidentiality of the identities of the women who reported the alleged offences, in line with the need to protect victims of cyber harassment.

Investigators then carried out detailed technical analysis to identify the individuals allegedly responsible for the offences. Digital evidence and other technical inputs helped police trace the suspects across different locations, eventually leading to the arrests. The operation highlighted the role of specialised cybercrime teams in investigating offences that can involve anonymous or misleading online identities and activity across multiple jurisdictions.

The arrests were made under the #SecureHerSpace campaign associated with Mission Cyber Rakshika, which seeks to strengthen efforts against online threats faced by women. The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch's action comes amid growing concerns over harassment, impersonation and misuse of personal information on social media. Police efforts in such cases increasingly rely on digital forensics and technical analysis to establish links between online activity and suspected offenders, while victim confidentiality remains an important part of the investigation process.
