PM Modi Greets Nation As India Celebrates Its 80th Independence Day Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended his greetings to the people of India on the occasion of the country's 80th Independence Day, paying tribute to the freedom fighters whose courage and sacrifices helped bring an end to colonial rule. In his message, Modi said the country is continuing to make progress across different sectors and expressed confidence that India's development journey would gather further momentum in the coming years.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister remembered the "countless freedom fighters" whose determination, sacrifice and commitment played a central role in India's struggle for independence. Modi said their contribution continues to be remembered with gratitude as the nation marks another Independence Day. His message placed the sacrifices of the freedom movement at the centre of the national celebrations.

Modi also said that the aspirations and dreams of those who fought for India's freedom continue to inspire citizens as the country works towards building a "Viksit Bharat", or developed India. He linked the legacy of the freedom struggle with the country's present development goals, urging citizens to continue contributing to India's progress. The Prime Minister's remarks came as celebrations were held across the country with flag-hoisting ceremonies and patriotic programmes.

Independence Day is observed annually on August 15 to commemorate India's independence from British colonial rule in 1947. The day provides an opportunity to remember the freedom movement and honour those who contributed to the country's independence while also reflecting on India's journey since 1947. This year's celebrations combine that historical remembrance with a focus on the country's future aspirations, including the vision of achieving "Viksit Bharat" by 2047, the centenary year of independence.
