ED Uncovers Rs 20 Crore Properties in Raid on UK Preacher's UP Links
ED raids UK preacher's UP properties in money laundering case over fake salary and NGO fund misuse.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at two residential properties linked to UK-based Islamic preacher Maulana Shamsul Huda Khan in Azamgarh and Sant Kabir Nagar districts on Wednesday. The operations are part of an ongoing investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED stepped in after the Uttar Pradesh police filed three FIRs against the Maulana, citing charges of fraud, forgery, and criminal conspiracy. Khan, who worked as a primary school teacher in a madrasa from 1984 and acquired UK citizenship in 2013, allegedly continued to draw salary until 2017 and pension benefits until 2023.
The FIRs claim that Khan concealed his foreign citizenship, misrepresented his nationality, and unlawfully acquired immovable properties while receiving government salary and retirement benefits without entitlement. Authorities also allege that he routed illegal funds through NGOs he controlled, including Raza Foundation and Kuliyatul Banatir Razabia Educational and Welfare Society, under the guise of donations.

Financial analysis during the investigation revealed that over Rs 5 crore flowed through bank accounts linked to Khan and his entities between 2007 and 2025. Accounts involved include the Central Bank of India, Indian Bank, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India, and HDFC Bank.
During the raids, the ED seized incriminating documents and records related to the acquisition of 17 immovable properties. While the declared purchase value of these assets is around Rs 3 crore, their current market value is estimated at approximately Rs 20 crore, the agency claimed.
Officials said the probe is ongoing, and further scrutiny of financial transactions and property dealings is expected. The case highlights the ED’s focus on uncovering misuse of charitable organizations and foreign funds for personal enrichment.
