Drunk Driver Held After Abducting and Assaulting Motorcyclist Near Carter Road
Luxury car predator arrested after horrifying Bandra abduction attempt.
Mumbai Police arrested 31-year-old Chirag Hargunani in the early hours of Sunday following a chilling abduction in the upscale Bandra neighbourhood. The accused, visibly intoxicated and driving a white Audi, flagged down two men riding a motorcycle near Carter Road, claiming he needed directions to a nearby park. What began as a seemingly harmless request quickly escalated into a terrifying ordeal that has left the city shaken.
According to the official complaint lodged at Bandra police station, Hargunani convinced one of the bikers, Mohammad Taabish Shoeb Kutty, to enter his luxury vehicle to guide him through the area since he admitted to being too drunk to navigate alone. Once Kutty was inside, the accused locked the doors, accelerated away from the spot, and began making explicit sexual demands, turning the short ride into a full-blown kidnapping.
As the situation turned violent, Kutty repeatedly pleaded to be let out, but Hargunani allegedly refused and physically assaulted him inside the moving car. In a moment of desperate courage, the victim managed to grab the car keys from the ignition during the struggle, forcing the Audi to come to a sudden halt on a deserted stretch. Kutty then escaped the vehicle and raised an alarm with local residents before contacting the police control room.

Responding swiftly, Bandra police officers reached the location within minutes and took Hargunani into custody after confirming his intoxicated state through preliminary checks. He has been charged under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including kidnapping, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation, and outraging modesty, with additional charges likely once medical reports confirm blood-alcohol levels.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage in Bandra, with residents and safety activists demanding stricter night patrolling and crackdowns on drunk driving in Mumbai’s affluent areas. Authorities have assured a thorough investigation, and the accused remains in custody as the case proceeds rapidly through the legal system.
