Drug Bust: Rs 1 Cr Brown Sugar Seized!
Two Bihar men nabbed with drugs at Malda station.
In a major crackdown, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel arrested two Bihar residents, Riham Reza (18) and Md Talib Reza (27), at Malda Town railway station in West Bengal on Monday night, seizing brown sugar worth Rs 1.01 crore. The duo was spotted acting suspiciously near the station’s foot-overbridge, prompting a search by alert RPF officers.
The search uncovered two packets containing 203 grams of brown sugar, a potent narcotic, concealed on the suspects. The seizure, valued at over Rs 1 crore in the illicit market, marks a significant blow to drug trafficking networks operating through railway hubs in the region.
Following their arrest, the accused were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They were promptly handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further investigation. Authorities suspect the duo may be part of a larger interstate drug smuggling racket, with ongoing inquiries to trace the source and intended destination of the consignment.
