Driver Nabbed in Rs 4.8 Cr Jewellery Heist

Trusted driver’s shocking betrayal ends in Rajasthan arrest

In a dramatic breakthrough, Madhya Pradesh police arrested a car driver and his aide from Rajasthan after they allegedly fled with gold ornaments worth ₹4.8 crore belonging to a Gujarat jeweller. The accused, identified as Masru Rabari (25) and his accomplice Prempal Singh Devda (28), were taken into custody from Jalore district on Saturday, officials said.

Rabari, employed by Ahmedabad-based jeweller Dharmendra Jayantilal, had been tasked with transporting ornament samples for trade purposes. However, on July 9, he allegedly took off from Indore with two bags of jewellery while the trader’s accountant had briefly stepped out for a haircut.

Investigators revealed that Rabari and Devda were hiding in a rented house in Jalore. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police raided the premises and recovered the stolen consignment, which had been cleverly concealed inside the seat of their car.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Rajesh Kumar Tripathi confirmed that the entire haul, weighing 4.8 kg, has been seized. Both suspects are now under interrogation to trace possible wider links and determine whether others were involved.

Authorities lauded the operation as a significant recovery, given the scale of the theft and the audacity of the accused, who had initially succeeded in evading capture for over a month.
