Delhi Tailor Arrested for Murder Over Money Dispute
Tailor Kills Woman, Dumps Body
A 35-year-old tailor, Saleem, was arrested by Delhi Police for allegedly strangling a woman to death and attempting to dispose of her body in a drain in the Dabri area, following a dispute over money. The victim, a resident of Bindapur, was reported missing by her mother on August 21, triggering a swift police investigation.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh, a PCR call was received at Dabri Police Station on August 23 at around 2:54 PM, reporting a dead body. "Preliminary investigation identified the body as that of the missing woman," Singh stated. The victim’s identity was confirmed partly through a distinctive tattoo on her hand.
Police utilized CCTV footage and technical surveillance to trace the victim’s final movements. Footage revealed that on August 21, the victim entered a building with Saleem, a resident of Mahaveer Enclave, originally from Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. Later, Saleem was seen leaving the premises alone, carrying what appeared to be a concealed body.

Investigations revealed that Saleem and the victim were acquaintances in regular contact. The woman had reportedly been pressing Saleem to repay a sum of money he owed her, leading to a heated argument. "In a fit of rage, the accused strangled her and attempted to dispose of the body by transporting it on a motorcycle to a drain in Dabri," Singh explained. The plan unraveled when the body slipped during transport, attracting public attention, after which Saleem fled the scene.
A case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Dabri Police Station. Multiple police teams were dispatched to Hardoi, where Saleem was apprehended after a 48-hour chase. "The accused was arrested after sustained efforts. Further interrogation is underway to determine if others were involved," Singh added.
The victim’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and the investigation remains ongoing to uncover additional details of the crime.
