Delhi Police Shut 24/7 Cloud Kitchen At 10 PM, Citing Licences, Traffic And Theft

Delhi cloud kitchen says police forced shutdown at 10 pm, risking jobs; authorities cite traffic and licensing rules.

A Delhi-based entrepreneur has alleged that local police forced his cloud kitchen outlet to shut operations at 10 PM, triggering concerns over business disruption and potential job losses in the food delivery sector, according to a detailed social media account shared on Monday. The entrepreneur, Gagandeep Singh Sapra, founder of System 3 Group of Companies, claimed that police officers visited his cloud kitchen in Vasant Kunj around 9:40 PM and questioned the business model and late-night operations. He later posted a chronology of events online, stating that the enforcement action appeared to be linked to safety concerns in the area.

According to Sapra’s account, officers reportedly cited past theft incidents in the locality and suggested that the cloud kitchen should employ private security guards if it wished to continue night operations. He also alleged that the shutdown would directly impact jobs associated with the outlet, warning of broader implications for similar late-night food businesses.

The Delhi Police’s South West District officials responded to the allegations, stating that the personnel were acting within their duty and that the visit was part of routine enforcement and security-related checks. Authorities have not indicated any formal restriction specifically targeting cloud kitchens operating after 10 PM.

The incident has sparked debate on social media about balancing public safety concerns with the operational freedom of food delivery and cloud kitchen businesses, which have expanded rapidly in urban areas. Industry stakeholders argue that such establishments often rely on late-night operations to remain viable and meet consumer demand.

As discussions continue, the episode highlights the ongoing friction between regulatory enforcement and emerging digital-first food businesses, particularly in densely populated urban pockets where safety, logistics, and economic activity frequently intersect.
