Delhi Driver Murders Colleague Over Loan Dispute

In a chilling incident in Delhi's Chhattarpur, a 47-year-old driver, Chandra Prakash, allegedly killed his colleague Sita Ram, 42, after a dispute over a Rs 10,000 loan. The gruesome murder took place at a private farmhouse where both worked, police said on Sunday.

Sita Ram, a domestic worker from Uttar Pradesh, had been employed at the farmhouse for a decade and was alone on the premises as the owner was away. On July 26, a missing person report was filed at Mehrauli Police Station after staff noticed the farmhouse's main doors ajar and Sita Ram missing.

A police search led to a horrifying discovery: Sita Ram's body in the farmhouse’s septic tank. "Crime and forensic teams were dispatched, and the body was sent for post-mortem," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan. A case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder and evidence tampering.

Investigators reviewed CCTV footage, mobile records, and worker statements, noting that Chandra Prakash, the farmhouse driver for seven years, had vanished. Using technical surveillance and local tips, police arrested him in Palam, southwest Delhi.

During interrogation, Prakash confessed, admitting that a heated argument erupted when Sita Ram refused his loan request. In a fit of rage, Prakash bludgeoned Sita Ram with a hammer and hid the body in the septic tank to cover his tracks. The murder weapon was later recovered.

Chandra Prakash, from Pantgaon village in Almora, Uttarakhand, lived in Chhattarpur. Locals described Sita Ram as kind and helpful, expressing shock at the brutal killing. One worker recalled, “I knew Sita Ram for two years; he was a good man.” Another revealed Prakash initially alerted the owner about Sita Ram’s disappearance, prompting police involvement.

Outraged workers demanded strict punishment for Prakash. Authorities are probing whether others were involved or aware of the crime.
