In a brazen robbery in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, two motorcycle-borne armed men looted a jeweller of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 15 lakh on Monday night in Avsanganj market, about 60 km from the district headquarters. The victim, Ramesh, a Bihar native residing in Avsaganj, was heading home just 100 metres from his jewellery shop when the assailants struck.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Sanjay Rai, the robbers, wielding a country-made pistol, intercepted Ramesh, snatched his bag containing 7 kg of silver and 70 grams of gold, and assaulted him when he resisted before fleeing the scene. Police swiftly set up checkposts in the area, but the culprits escaped. A case has been registered against unidentified persons, and investigations are ongoing to nab the perpetrators.
This audacious heist has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about safety in the bustling market area as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend the robbers.
