18-year-old victim rescued by students, out of danger after neck and hand injuries.
An 18-year-old first-year B.Tech Information Technology student was stabbed by her male classmate on the premises of an engineering college in Saravanampatti, Coimbatore, on Thursday morning. The accused, also 18 and from the same course and batch, allegedly attacked the girl around 9 am after she recently ended their months-long relationship. He targeted her neck and hand in a bid to cause serious harm, police sources confirmed.
The girl’s screams alerted fellow students, who intervened swiftly, overpowering the attacker and rescuing her. She was initially rushed to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a private facility managed by the college at Race Course for further treatment. Doctors reported stab wounds and bruises but stated she is now stable and out of danger.
Saravanampatti police arrested the youth the same evening and registered a case under multiple sections, including attempt to murder and provisions related to harassment of women. The victim hails from Cheran Maanagar, while the accused resides in RS Puram. Authorities described the incident as stemming directly from the breakup, highlighting once again the risks of possessiveness and violence in campus relationships.
