Patna Hostel Sealed After Tragic Death of 18-Year-Old NEET Aspirant
SIT seals premises amid assault allegations and sleeping pills-typhoid findings.
A private hostel in Patna’s Chitragupt Nagar was sealed by investigators on Tuesday following the death of an 18-year-old NEET aspirant who resided there. The young woman from Jehanabad was discovered unconscious in her room earlier this month and passed away on January 11 at a private hospital after days in a coma.
The case sparked widespread outrage after her family alleged sexual assault and accused the police of attempting to cover up the crime. In response, Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter. The SIT inspected the hostel for about half an hour before sealing it and had earlier visited the victim’s family in Jehanabad to gather statements.
The post-mortem report attributed the death to consumption of a large quantity of sleeping pills, while also noting that the student was suffering from typhoid. The hostel owner was arrested following massive protests in the state capital demanding justice.

The tragedy drew attention from political figures, with Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor meeting the victim’s family on Friday and calling for a re-investigation. Hours later, the SIT was constituted. The incident has once again highlighted safety concerns for students, especially young women preparing for competitive exams in coaching hubs like Patna.
Adding to the grim news, another suicide came to light in a different Patna hostel. A 15-year-old NEET aspirant from Aurangabad was found dead on January 6 at a hostel on Exhibition Road. Police detained a boy after the family alleged he intruded into the premises and assaulted her.
