Brother Kills Sister on Rakhi in Honour Killing

Jhansi man murders sister over her affair after festival.

In a chilling incident in Jhansi’s Garautha area, Uttar Pradesh, an 18-year-old girl, Kumari Sahodar alias Putti, was allegedly killed by her brother Arvind, 25, on August 9, 2025, hours after celebrating Raksha Bandhan, police reported on August 10. The gruesome act, motivated by Arvind’s disapproval of Putti’s affair with 19-year-old Vishal, followed the murder of Vishal just days earlier. Putti’s body, with her head shaved, was discovered near Dada Maharaj platform in a deserted area of Chandrapura village.

Police have detained Arvind and his friend Prakash Prajapati, also around 25, in connection with both murders. The case traces back to four months ago when Putti and Vishal, a Lahchura native, eloped but were persuaded to return home after a mutual settlement between their families. However, their continued meetings reignited tensions. Arvind, who had recently returned from Pune, allegedly conspired with Prajapati to eliminate the couple.

On August 7, Vishal’s body was found dumped in Gudha village, leading to a police case against Arvind and Prajapati based on a complaint by Vishal’s father, Halkeram. On August 9, under the pretext of getting medicine, Arvind took Putti from home and killed her, police said.

The back-to-back murders have shocked the local community, highlighting the persistence of honour killings in the region. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover further details of the motive and circumstances surrounding these tragic events.
