British National Escapes Delhi Airport Amid Deportation, Triggers Massive Manhunt
A British deportee vanished from Delhi airport’s immigration area, triggering a multi-agency search.
Authorities at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport are scrambling after a major security breach saw a British national slip out of the immigration area and vanish into the capital. The incident unfolded on October 28, when Fitz Patrick, arriving from Bangkok and scheduled for deportation to the UK, evaded immigration authorities in an unexpected escape that has left officials red-faced and security agencies searching citywide.
Patrick, who landed at noon on Air India flight AI 333, was to board a connecting flight to London later that afternoon but reportedly missed it. Rather than remain under supervision, he managed to climb over the e-visa immigration counter early the next morning, exit through an arrival gate, and board a staff bus out of the airport complex. The incident only came to light when airline staff found him missing on October 29, setting off a frantic search by the Delhi Police, CISF, and Bureau of Immigration.
A multi-agency investigation is now underway, utilizing airport CCTV, staff questioning, and a hunt for possible hideouts and exit routes across the National Capital Region. Police have registered a case and are examining details related to Patrick’s travel documents, background, and potential motives.

Officials remain unsure whether Fitz Patrick actually possessed a valid Indian visa; they also have yet to trace his luggage or identify any suspicious links. Despite days of search operations, Patrick remains untraced, underscoring serious lapses in airport security that have prompted calls for urgent procedural upgrades.
The authorities stress that anyone found responsible for facilitating or overlooking the breach will face strict action as efforts continue to bring the fugitive to justice and restore confidence in the nation’s airport security protocols.
