#BreakingNews: Six Maoists Killed in Major Chhattisgarh Encounter, Weapons Recovered

Six Maoists killed in Bijapur encounter; security forces recover weapons and explosives.

At least six Maoists were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces on Tuesday morning in the dense forests of Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh. The operation, described by officials as a major breakthrough, led to the recovery of several automatic weapons, including an INSAS rifle, a Sten gun, a .303 rifle, and a cache of explosives along with Maoist literature.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Bijapur, Dr Jitendra Yadav, the encounter began around 10 a.m. when joint teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) from Bijapur and Dantewada and the Special Task Force (STF) launched a search operation near the National Park area following intelligence inputs about Maoist presence. “The bodies of six Maoists have so far been recovered along with weapons and explosives. The exchange of fire continues intermittently,” he said. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to prevent the escape of other Maoists believed to be hiding in nearby forested zones.

Inspector General of Police (IG) Bastar Range, Sundarraj P, hailed the operation as a decisive success in the ongoing anti-Maoist campaign. “Eliminating six hardcore Maoist cadres marks a significant gain for the security forces at a time when the Maoist outfit is directionless and struggling with low morale. The organisation’s operational capacity has been confined to a few shrinking hideouts,” he said. The IG added that teams from DRG, STF, Bastar Fighters, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) have been mobilised in adjoining areas for extensive combing operations.

The encounter is part of an intensified security offensive launched across the Bastar region in recent months, aimed at dismantling remnant Maoist strongholds spread across Sukma, Dantewada, Bijapur, and Narayanpur districts. Officials noted that Chhattisgarh’s southern corridor, historically a Maoist stronghold connecting Bastar to the Andhra Pradesh border, has witnessed sustained operations that have significantly curtailed insurgent mobility in recent months.

Authorities said efforts are underway to identify the slain Maoists, and a detailed search and combing operation is being conducted in and around the encounter site. Security forces are maintaining high alert, anticipating possible retaliation attempts by remaining cadres in nearby forest belts. The operation underscores the administration’s continued push to restore full security control over insurgency-hit regions of Chhattisgarh.
