#BreakingNews: BSF Arrests Pakistani Couple After Illegal Border Crossing in Gujarat’s Kutch
Border forces tighten grip after repeated Sindh intrusions.
Border Security Force (BSF) on Monday apprehended yet another Pakistani couple who had illegally crossed the highly sensitive international border into Gujarat’s Kutch district, marking the second such incident involving young couples from Sindh province in just six weeks.
The detained individuals, identified as 24-year-old Popat Kumar and his wife Gauri, hail from Mithi village in Pakistan’s Tharparkar district. They were intercepted near Kudra village in the vast creek area of Kutch, an extremely challenging terrain that has historically been exploited for smuggling and infiltration. After initial on-site questioning by BSF personnel, the couple was formally handed over to local police for exhaustive interrogation under relevant legal provisions.
This latest arrest closely follows the October detention of another couple, Tara Ranmal Bhil and Meena from Lasari village in Sindh, who were caught near the Khadir bet after traversing treacherous salt marshes and hilly stretches on foot for over thirty-six hours. In that case, the couple claimed they fled Pakistan due to violent opposition to their inter-faith marriage, a motive that investigators treated with caution while ruling out immediate espionage links.

Security agencies are now conducting parallel, in-depth probes into both incidents to detect any common facilitators, shared routes, or underlying patterns that could point to organised networks. While personal circumstances appear to be the primary driver so far, authorities emphasise that the strategic Gujarat frontier, with its complex geography of creeks, mudflats, and isolated bets, demands constant vigilance against any form of unauthorised crossing.
With tensions along the western border already elevated, the BSF has further intensified night patrolling, deployed additional quick-reaction teams, and enhanced technical surveillance across the entire Kutch sector. Officials have made it clear that every intrusion, regardless of apparent motive, will be investigated thoroughly to safeguard national security interests.
