Odisha Security Forces Discover Cave Packed With Maoist Weapons, IED Materials
Security forces unearth deadly stockpile in Kalimela’s forbidden forests.
A joint operation by the 142 Battalion BSF and Odisha Police on Sunday uncovered a massive clandestine Maoist arms depot hidden inside a remote cave in the Bhejangiwada reserve forest under Kalimela police station limits in Malkangiri district, dealing a crushing blow to Left Wing Extremism in one of its last remaining strongholds in Odisha.
Acting on precise human intelligence, the combined team of COB Bodigetta and Special Operation Group personnel penetrated the treacherous Goregandi-Dulagandi hill range — an area once dominated by the Andhra-Odisha Border Zone Committee of CPI (Maoist) — and located multiple concealed dumps buried under heavy boulders and camouflaged with thick vegetation.
From the cave, troops recovered an improvised directional claymore mine ready for ambush deployment, a country-made pistol, 150 live rounds of assorted calibre, 170 expended cartridge cases indicating recent weapons training, blank ammunition, dozens of gelatin sticks, electronic detonators, pressure sensors and a large quantity of Maoist propaganda literature.

Security officials revealed that the seized material was clearly intended for manufacturing powerful IEDs to target security convoys and police stations during the ongoing Tactical Counter Offensive Campaign (TCOC) period, confirming that despite heavy losses elsewhere, Maoist cadres were desperately attempting to rebuild war-like reserves in this cut-off Swabhiman Anchal territory.
A senior BSF officer described the haul as a “game-changing disruption” that has severely degraded the extremists’ logistical depth and morale in Malkangiri, while intensified combing operations backed by drones and dog squads continue across adjoining forests to hunt down any remaining cadres and prevent re-occupation of the destroyed arms dump.
