Bomb Threat Email Triggers Emergency Evacuation at Rajasthan High Court in Jaipur
Second threat in a month; full judicial work halted amid panic.
The Rajasthan High Court’s Jaipur Bench plunged into chaos on Friday afternoon when an anonymous email claiming that explosives had been planted inside the premises reached the court registry shortly before 1 pm. Within minutes, emergency protocols were activated: red alerts flashed across all courtrooms, ongoing hearings were abruptly adjourned mid-proceed, and hundreds of judges, senior advocates, junior lawyers, litigants and staff were ordered to immediately vacate both the heritage main building and the new annexe.
Security Personnel sealed all entry and exit gates while directing people to assemble at designated safe zones outside the complex. Bomb disposal squads from the Rajasthan Police, accompanied by dog squads and Quick Reaction Teams, launched a meticulous floor-by-floor search covering over 150 courtrooms, 80 judicial chambers, record rooms, libraries, cafeterias, underground parking and even the rooftop terrace. Specialised anti-sabotage units used explosive-trace detectors and mirror searches under vehicles to rule out any concealed device.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lalit Sharma, who supervised the operation, confirmed that the threat appeared identical in pattern to previous hoax emails received by the High Court last month and by the Ajmer Sharif Dargah and Ajmer Collectorate just 24 hours earlier. “We treated it as a live threat until proven otherwise. Parallel searches were conducted to minimise disruption, and the entire complex was declared safe by 1:45 pm,” he stated. No suspicious object was recovered.

Judicial work remained paralysed for nearly two hours, causing postponement of dozens of urgent matters, including bail hearings and constitutional cases. Normal entry was restored at 1:50 pm, and the court administration announced that all benches would resume hearings from 2 pm with extended sitting extended if required to clear the backlog.
With this being the second direct threat to the High Court in five weeks and the third high-profile institution targeted in Rajasthan within 48 hours, senior police officials have escalated the matter to the state’s Anti-Terrorism Squad and Cyber Cell for a coordinated investigation. Authorities suspect a single miscreant or organised group using encrypted email services to create widespread fear and disrupt public institutions. Tracing efforts are underway on priority.
