Bihar Hospital Shooting Shocks Patna: Gang Executes Patient in Broad Daylight
Five armed men stormed Patna’s Paras Hospital, fatally shooting parolee Chandan Mishra, exposing Bihar’s spiraling gang violence
In a brazen display of lawlessness, five armed assailants stormed into Paras Hospital in Patna, entered a patient’s room, and fatally shot Chandan Mishra, a notorious criminal with multiple murder charges. The chilling attack, captured on CCTV, occurred in broad daylight, with the gunmen casually entering room 209 on the second floor, firing multiple rounds, and fleeing on motorcycles. Mishra, out on parole for medical treatment, succumbed to his injuries in the hospital’s ICU.
Mishra, a Buxar resident with over ten murder cases against him, had been transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail before being granted parole for liver treatment. Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma confirmed the attack was likely orchestrated by the rival Chandan-Sheru gang, stating, “We have photographs of the shooters and are working with Buxar police to identify them.” Authorities are also probing potential involvement of hospital security guards, raising questions about the facility’s safety protocols.
This shocking incident, occurring around 7:30 a.m. in the busy Raja Bazar area, adds to a string of high-profile murders in Bihar, including those of industrialist Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato. The escalating violence has intensified scrutiny on the Nitish Kumar-led JDU-BJP government’s handling of law and order ahead of upcoming state elections. RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav seized the moment, questioning on X, “Criminals entered the ICU and shot a patient. Is anyone safe in Bihar?” Deputy CM Vijay Sinha vowed a thorough investigation, assuring that the culprits would face strict punishment.
