CPI Leader Gunned Down in Hyderabad Park
CPI leader brutally shot in morning attack.
In a shocking daylight attack, K Chandu Naik, a 47-year-old state council member of the Communist Party of India (CPI), was fatally shot by unidentified assailants in Hyderabad’s Malakpet area on Tuesday morning. The incident occurred around 7:30 AM at Shalivahana Nagar Park during Naik’s routine morning walk, sending shockwaves through the local community.
According to police, three to four assailants arrived in a white Swift car, threw chili powder into Naik’s face to disorient him, and then fired multiple rounds, killing him instantly. Naik, a resident of Chaitanyapuri and originally from Narsaipalli, Nagarkurnool district, was shot in front of his wife and son. The attackers fled the scene immediately.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East Zone) S Chaitanya Kumar, who inspected the crime scene, reported the recovery of three fired and two unfired rounds, suggesting a single weapon was used. Police are analyzing CCTV footage and tracing the car’s route to identify the suspects. Ten investigative teams have been formed to apprehend the culprits.

Preliminary investigations point to an old rivalry as the motive, with Naik’s family alleging enmity with a CPI (Marxist-Leninist) member named Rajesh from Devarpula. Naik, who was involved in real estate, was also an accused in a 2022 murder case at L B Nagar Police Station, though no recent threats were reported. The killing has sparked panic and grief, with locals praising Naik’s community contributions.
