Alleged Mastermind In Jaipur Kidnapping Case Arrested In Dubai, Returned To Jaipur

Rajasthan Police have brought alleged kidnapping mastermind Karan Aswani, alias Kamal Sindhi, back to Jaipur from Dubai, nearly a year after he allegedly fled India following the abduction of businessman Narendra Nath Datta and a ransom demand to his family. Aswani was traced in the UAE through coordinated efforts involving the Rajasthan Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), Interpol and other international agencies. He was detained by the Abu Dhabi Interpol unit before being extradited to India and brought to Jaipur late Thursday night.

The case dates back to August 2025, when Datta left his Jaipur residence for Vaishali Nagar with an acquaintance and a driver. After his mobile phone was switched off, his family received a call from his phone the following day informing them that he had been kidnapped and demanding ransom for his release. Police launched an investigation and later rescued Datta and his driver, Yogesh. Harsh Gautam, Kanak Ganguly and Ajay Beniwal alias Shaka were subsequently arrested in connection with the case.

Investigators alleged that members of the group had used police uniforms while carrying out the kidnapping and kept the victims captive at different locations, including Agra. The police recovered Datta’s Innova Crysta from Harsh Gautam’s possession and also seized a Swift car allegedly used in the crime. During the investigation, Aswani’s alleged role emerged, prompting police teams to search his suspected hideouts, but he remained absconding.

The probe also indicated Aswani’s alleged links with an organised crime syndicate, while investigators gathered evidence against other accused persons in the kidnapping and ransom case. Police subsequently obtained an arrest warrant against him from the court. By then, however, investigators found that Aswani had fled India and was believed to be in Dubai, prompting the Rajasthan Police to expand the search through international agencies.

Following information about his location, the AGTF coordinated with Interpol’s Abu Dhabi unit and shared details concerning the accused. A Red Corner Notice was issued, while investigators used technical surveillance and other methods to trace his whereabouts. The information was passed to the Abu Dhabi Interpol authorities, who detained Aswani. A Rajasthan Police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth Sharma left Jaipur for Dubai on August 31 to complete the required legal and coordination formalities.

After securing custody of Aswani, the Rajasthan Police team brought him back to Jaipur late Thursday night. The accused is now in Rajasthan Police custody as investigators continue proceedings in the kidnapping and ransom case. The operation involved senior officers including ADG Dinesh MN, DIG Yogesh Yadav and other AGTF personnel who coordinated the investigation and international efforts to locate and return him.
