22-Year-Old Bangladeshi Woman Arrested At Iritty Spa Over Fake Aadhaar

Woman allegedly worked for nearly a year using forged identity documents.

A 22-year-old Bangladeshi woman was allegedly found living and working in Kerala using a fake Aadhaar card that identified her as a resident of West Bengal, police said. She was detained from the Black and Beauty Wellness Spa near the upper bus stand in Iritty, Kannur district, following a police raid based on a tip-off.

According to police, the woman, identified as Suma Wanual, did not possess a valid passport or Indian visa. Officers reportedly became suspicious while verifying her Aadhaar details and found that the document was allegedly forged. During questioning, she admitted to being a Bangladeshi national, police said.

Investigators also recovered documents that police described as including a Bangladeshi birth certificate. Officials said the documents helped establish her nationality. Police further said she had entered West Bengal before travelling to Iritty, where she allegedly obtained the fake Aadhaar card and subsequently used the identity document to work at the spa for around a year.

The investigation is now focused on how the woman entered India without valid travel documents and how she obtained the alleged forged Aadhaar card. Police are also examining whether other individuals assisted her in securing the document, travelling to Kerala or obtaining employment at the spa. The authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding her stay in the state.

Police said the woman will be produced before a court and, following the required remand procedures, may be moved to a designated facility for foreign nationals staying in India without valid documents. Authorities said the process for her deportation to Bangladesh would be initiated after the completion of the applicable legal proceedings.

The operation was led by Iritty CI K V Umesh and SHO C Saneeth, along with SI Sreenath, Woman SI T Sandhya, SI Raju Joseph and ASI Biju. Police said the case is part of a wider investigation, noting that this was the fourth reported incident involving Bangladeshi nationals being detained in Kannur district over the previous three months.
