Thunderstorms And Gusty Winds Forecast For Pune, Heatwave Alert Issued In Amravati
Pune faces thunderstorms, while Amravati remains under heatwave warning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather advisory for Pune, forecasting a mix of thunderstorms, lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty winds over the next few days, even as parts of Maharashtra continue to grapple with extreme heat conditions. The alert is valid between May 25 and May 28 and applies to isolated areas across the region.
According to the IMD forecast, wind speeds during thunderstorm activity may reach 30–40 kmph in some pockets of Pune district. Officials have also warned of the possibility of dry thunderstorms in certain areas, which could bring lightning without significant rainfall, increasing the risk of fire hazards and local disruptions. Light rain and thundershowers are expected intermittently during this period.
Despite the rain forecast, daytime conditions in Pune are expected to remain warm, with maximum temperatures hovering around 36°C. Night temperatures are likely to settle between 24°C and 25°C, offering slight relief after hot afternoons. However, high humidity levels in the morning are expected to make conditions feel more uncomfortable, with sticky weather persisting through parts of the day.

In contrast, other regions of Maharashtra are witnessing extreme heat conditions. In Amravati, the IMD has issued a red alert for heatwave to severe heatwave conditions expected at multiple locations between May 25 and May 28. Authorities have also warned of warm night conditions in isolated pockets, further increasing health risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
Officials have issued a heat action advisory across affected districts, urging residents to avoid unnecessary exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours. People have been advised to stay hydrated, wear light cotton clothing, and use protective coverings such as hats or umbrellas while stepping outdoors. Special caution has been recommended for children, elderly individuals, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Authorities have also cautioned the public to recognise early signs of heat-related illnesses such as dizziness, nausea, excessive sweating, weakness, and heat cramps, urging immediate medical attention in severe cases. Farmers and outdoor workers have been advised to adjust working hours and take protective measures for both labourers and crops amid the fluctuating but extreme weather conditions across Maharashtra.
