Tension Continues to Brew! PM Modi Meets IAF Chief for 45 Minutes

IAF Chief Meets PM Modi Amid Escalating Tensions Post-Pahalgam Attack

Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi for 45 minutes on Sunday at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, to discuss India’s security strategy following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians, including 25 tourists.

The meeting, part of a strategic review, focused on air defence readiness and inter-service coordination, sources said, amid ongoing ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) for the 10th consecutive day.

This follows Modi’s Saturday meeting with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, who briefed him on maritime security in the Arabian Sea, reflecting heightened tri-service planning. On April 29, Modi, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, and service chiefs, granted the military “complete operational freedom” to respond to the attack, attributed to Pakistan-backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

India has unleashed stringent measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari-Wagah border, banning Pakistani imports, postal services, and ships, and expelling Pakistani nationals. Pakistan, denying involvement, closed its airspace to Indian flights, suspended trade, and test-fired a 450-km Abdali missile on Saturday.

Modi vowed to hunt down the attack’s perpetrators, stating, “Terrorists and their backers will be chased to the ends of the earth.”

The attack, in Baisaran meadow, has sparked national outrage and global condemnation, with the US and Russia urging de-escalation. As India calibrates its response, the region remains on edge.
