SpiceJet Plans Up to 100 Additional Daily Flights for Winter 2025-26
Airline unleashes massive capacity surge to dominate festive skies.
SpiceJet has unveiled an aggressive expansion plan to operate up to 100 additional daily flights during the winter schedule of 2025-26, pending final approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. The sharp capacity increase is designed to capitalise on the unprecedented surge in domestic and international travel demand during the festive season, year-end holidays, and peak tourism months, ensuring the airline captures a larger slice of India's booming aviation market.
In a remarkable turnaround from its fleet-grounding crisis earlier this year, the low-cost carrier has successfully returned 17 aircraft to service over the last two months through a combination of damp-leasing arrangements and reactivation of long-grounded Boeing 737s. This includes five aircraft inducted in November alone — one 737 MAX and four narrow-body jets — bringing the total operational fleet to 35 aircraft, every one of which is now actively deployed on revenue flights.
Daily departures have already soared from just 100 on September 30, 2025, to 176 at present, marking a near doubling of operations in under ten weeks. With the proposed 100-flight addition, SpiceJet aims to push its daily count close to 280, placing it firmly among the country's most active carriers and significantly enhancing connectivity on high-traffic metro and Tier-2 routes.

A senior company spokesperson stated that the winter deployment is a direct response to robust booking trends and forward loads observed across the network. "We are witnessing strong and sustained demand on key domestic and select international sectors. These additional flights will provide passengers greater choice, better timings, and seamless connectivity while ensuring we optimise aircraft utilisation and revenue potential," the airline said in an official release.
The expansion forms part of SpiceJet's broader revival strategy under its new leadership and ongoing financial restructuring, with further aircraft inductions and route rationalisation planned through March 2026. Industry observers note that the aggressive capacity push could intensify fare competition and pressure rivals during the peak travel window while reinforcing the carrier's determination to reclaim lost market share.
