Separate Race Horses and Wedding Horses! Rahul Gandhi's Diktat to Gujarat Congress
Rahul Gandhi Vows to Revive Gujarat Congress, Calls BJP Fight Ideological
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, addressing booth-level workers in Modasa, Aravalli district, on Wednesday, acknowledged the “demoralised” state of Gujarat’s Congress cadres after nearly 30 years out of power but asserted, “It’s easy to defeat the BJP, and we will do it.”
Launching a pilot project to revamp the party’s state unit for the 2027 assembly polls, he positioned the fight against the BJP and RSS as ideological, stating, “There are only two parties with ideologies—the BJP and Congress. Only Congress can defeat the BJP and RSS.”
On his second Gujarat visit in a week, Gandhi declared the state—home to Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Patel—crucial, saying, “The path to BJP’s defeat goes through Gujarat.”

He promised to remove leaders who are “inactive or working for the BJP” and empower district units. A five-member committee will appoint new presidents across 41 districts, granting them autonomy. “District units must run from districts, not Ahmedabad,” he said.
Gandhi likened leaders to “race horses” for elections, “wedding horses” for show, and “langda ghoda” (lame horses), vowing, “We’ll make race horses run and wedding horses dance.” He committed to promoting grassroots workers, especially women, and warned, “Those active only during elections won’t get tickets.” Pledging ministerial roles for top district presidents if Congress wins, he added, “We’ll check how many booths a leader wins.”
Addressing fund woes, Gandhi promised a district corpus fund, aiming to rebuild Congress’s strength in a BJP stronghold.
