Relief For Pinarayi Vijayan! Kerala HC Grants Relief to CM Vijayan’s Daughter in SFIO Case

Kerala High Court Grants Relief to CM Vijayan’s Daughter in SFIO Fraud Case

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday ordered a two-month status quo in a financial fraud case involving Veena Vijayan, daughter of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Cochin Minerals and Rutile Limited (CMRL), halting further action on a trial court’s decision to proceed with a Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) complaint.

Justice T.R. Ravi’s interim order provides relief to Veena, her now-defunct IT firm Exalogic Solutions, and CMRL, as the court examines legal questions raised by CMRL’s challenge to the April 11, 2025, order of Ernakulam’s Additional District and Sessions Judge-VII.

The SFIO alleges that Exalogic received Rs 2.7 crore from CMRL without rendering services, part of a Rs 182-crore fraud involving fake invoices and inflated expenses. Veena, named the 11th accused among 13, faces charges under Section 447 of the Companies Act, carrying up to 10 years’ imprisonment. CMRL argued the trial court failed to issue mandatory notice before taking cognizance, violating Section 223(1) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

Chief Minister Vijayan called the case “political vendetta,” asserting Exalogic’s transactions were legitimate, tax-paid, and bank-processed. The CPI(M) rallied behind him, dismissing the charges as a BJP-led smear campaign.

Opposition Congress and BJP, however, demand Vijayan’s resignation, citing corruption. The court directed the Centre to file a counter-affidavit, with the case posted for review after reopening. The Enforcement Directorate, seeking the SFIO complaint, may face delays, intensifying Kerala’s political storm.
