The Quest for Pinarayi Vijayan's Chair Continues! CM's Favorite Cop in Hot Waters
Kerala ADGP Faces Probe Over False Allegations
Kerala’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajithkumar, widely seen as a close associate of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, now faces scrutiny after State Police Chief Sheikh Darvesh Saheb recommended filing civil and criminal cases against him.
The recommendation stems from Ajithkumar’s alleged false statement accusing fellow ADGP P. Vijayan of links to a gold smuggling gang at Karipur airport. Following a probe, Saheb cleared Vijayan and suggested action against Ajithkumar for defamation.
The report, submitted to CM Vijayan, has stirred political waves.
Former legislator P.V. Anvar, now aligned with the Congress-led UDF after parting ways with the CPI(M), claimed the report would likely be ignored, alleging Ajithkumar’s favored status with the CM. Anvar’s earlier accusations against Ajithkumar, including interference in cases, had been dismissed by CPI(M) leaders, prompting his exit.

Ajithkumar’s aspirations to succeed Saheb as state police chief upon his retirement on May 31 could be jeopardized.
The controversy highlights tensions within Kerala’s police and political circles, with critics questioning whether the government will act impartially. No official response has come from the CM’s office, leaving the next steps uncertain as the state grapples with balancing accountability and political loyalties.
