Report Says Putin is Living In Bunkers Amid Kremlin Security Concerns

Report claims Putin living in bunkers amid escalating threats

Russian President Vladimir Putin is reportedly spending extended periods in underground bunkers as the Kremlin tightens security amid growing fears of assassination attempts, drone strikes, and internal unrest, according to a report by the Financial Times. The heightened security measures come as Russia’s Federal Protective Service (FSO) intensifies protection around the president and limits his public exposure.

The report states that Putin has become increasingly isolated since the COVID-19 pandemic and now spends much of his time in fortified underground facilities, including sites in southern Russia. Sources familiar with the situation told the Financial Times that he is far less engaged in routine civilian affairs and is instead focusing on directing the war effort against Ukraine from secure locations.

Concerns within the Kremlin reportedly escalated following a series of Ukrainian drone operations targeting Russian territory, including military installations deep inside the country. Intelligence-linked sources suggest that these incidents, combined with fears of elite-level dissent, have contributed to heightened anxiety over a possible coup attempt or assassination using drone technology.

Security protocols around the Russian leader have reportedly been significantly expanded. Staff working in close proximity to Putin, including cooks, photographers, and bodyguards, are said to face strict restrictions, including bans on mobile phones, public transport use, and internet-enabled devices. Surveillance measures have also allegedly been extended to their homes as part of tighter counterintelligence controls.

The report further claims that the Kremlin has imposed periodic communication disruptions and internet shutdowns in parts of Moscow, which officials allegedly link to drone defence measures and broader security precautions. Putin is also said to be avoiding some of his traditional residences, with state media relying on pre-recorded footage at times to maintain public appearances of normalcy.

While the Kremlin has not publicly confirmed these claims, the report highlights rising internal tension, intensified wartime security concerns, and growing scrutiny of Russia’s political stability. Officials cited in the report say these measures reflect what they describe as “high alert” conditions within the Russian leadership amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.a
