Reliance Plans Low-Alcohol Beverage Entry Following Campa Brand Success
Reliance explores low-alcohol segment after Campa success.
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) is reportedly evaluating an entry into India’s emerging low-alcohol beverage segment, signalling a potential expansion of its fast-growing consumer goods portfolio following the strong performance of its Campa soft drinks brand. The move comes as the conglomerate looks to build on its recent success in the packaged beverages market and challenge established players such as Varun Beverages in a new and evolving category.
According to reports citing industry sources, the company is considering the launch of ready-to-drink “soft” or low-alcohol beverages aimed primarily at younger consumers. These products would fall under a separate brand identity and are expected to include categories such as flavoured malt drinks, hard seltzers, and low-alcohol-by-volume (low-ABV) cocktails, which are gaining popularity in global markets.
A senior RIL official reportedly indicated that the company is keen not to miss out on a segment that could become a major growth driver in India’s beverage industry over the coming years. The official noted that changing consumer preferences, especially among urban youth, are creating demand for lighter alcoholic alternatives that sit between traditional soft drinks and spirits.

The development follows the strong market response to Campa, which Reliance revived as part of its broader push into the FMCG and beverages sector. The brand’s rapid expansion has been viewed as a successful entry strategy, prompting the company to explore adjacent categories with similar mass-market potential.
Industry analysts suggest that the low-alcohol segment, while still at a nascent stage in India, is witnessing growing interest globally, particularly in markets where consumers are seeking moderation-focused drinking options. If Reliance proceeds with its plans, it could intensify competition in the beverage space, potentially reshaping the dynamics of both the soft drink and alcoholic beverage industries.
The company has not made any official announcement regarding product launches or timelines, and discussions are understood to be at an exploratory stage. However, the move underscores Reliance’s continued strategy of diversifying its consumer-facing businesses and identifying new high-growth categories within India’s evolving retail and lifestyle market.
