PM Modi Extends Congratulations to Kerala CM V D Satheesan
PM Modi congratulates V D Satheesan after taking oath as Kerala Chief Minister.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated V.D. Satheesan on taking oath as the Chief Minister of Kerala and assured the newly formed state government of full support from the Centre. His message came shortly after the swearing-in ceremony held in Thiruvananthapuram.In a post shared on X in Malayalam, the Prime Minister extended his greetings directly to the people of Kerala and wished Satheesan a successful tenure.
He stated that the Union government would extend all possible assistance to the state government in fulfilling the aspirations of the public.V.D. Satheesan was sworn in as the 13th Chief Minister of Kerala at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram earlier in the day. He took the oath along with a 20-member cabinet, marking the formal formation of the new state government following the 2026 Assembly election results.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) registered a decisive victory in the elections, winning 102 seats in the 140-member Kerala Assembly. The result ended a decade-long rule of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), which was reduced to 35 seats. The Congress party itself secured 63 seats, while its key ally, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), won 22 seats, contributing significantly to the alliance’s majority.

In the new cabinet, Satheesan will also handle the finance portfolio. Senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala has been assigned the Home department, while several other party leaders, including Sunny Joseph, A.P. Anilkumar, P.C. Vishnunadh, Roji M. John, Bindhu Krishna, M. Liju, T. Siddique and O.J. Janeesh, have been inducted as ministers. K.A. Thulasi will serve as one of the two women ministers from the Congress quota.The IUML will be represented in the cabinet by leaders including P.K. Kunhalikutty, P.K. Basheer, N. Shamsudheen, K.M. Shaji and Abdul Gafoor.
Representatives from allied parties such as the CMP, RSP, and Kerala Congress factions have also been included, reflecting the coalition nature of the government. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan has been named Speaker of the Kerala Assembly, while Shanimol Usman will serve as Deputy Speaker. The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior national leaders, including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, underscoring the political significance of the change in government.
