PM Modi, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled Strengthen India-UAE Engagement In Bilateral Meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a bilateral meeting in New Delhi on Saturday on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit. The two leaders reviewed progress in India-UAE bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on regional and global developments of mutual interest. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other senior officials were present.

Sheikh Khaled arrived in New Delhi on Friday to attend the BRICS Summit hosted by India under its 2026 chairship. He was received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh. The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit would provide an opportunity to further strengthen the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, particularly in areas including trade and energy security.

During their meeting, Modi and Sheikh Khaled reviewed positive developments in bilateral cooperation across several sectors. According to the MEA, discussions covered technology, trade, investment, energy and defence. The leaders also exchanged perspectives on regional and global developments, with the talks reflecting the broader scope of cooperation between India and the UAE.

The Crown Prince's visit comes after recent high-level engagement between India and the UAE. Modi met UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on June 16. During that meeting, the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and cooperation across sectors, while Modi also expressed appreciation for the UAE government's support and care for the Indian community in the country.

India is hosting the two-day 18th BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on September 12 and 13. India's BRICS chairship is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability”, reflecting Modi's vision of a people-centric approach rooted in “Humanity First”. The summit is also focused on strengthening cooperation among BRICS members on shared priorities and discussing regional and global issues.

BRICS currently comprises Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the UAE, while Belarus, Cuba, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan and Vietnam are partner countries. Sheikh Khaled's visit adds to the series of high-level India-UAE engagements in 2026, with the bilateral relationship continuing to focus on economic cooperation, energy security, technology, investment and defence.
