Mumbai Court Grants Raj Kundra Bail in Alleged Bitcoin Scam Case
A special Mumbai court grants bail to Raj Kundra in a Bitcoin-linked PMLA probe.
Businessman Raj Kundra was granted bail by a special court on Friday in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged Bitcoin scam, offering him significant relief in the ongoing legal proceedings. Kundra appeared before the court and moved a bail application, which was subsequently allowed after hearing arguments from both sides.
The matter is being heard by Special Judge R. B. Rote, who presides over cases filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The court had earlier, in January, issued summons to Kundra after taking cognisance of a charge sheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged cryptocurrency-linked laundering case.
During the hearing, Kundra’s counsel, Prashant Patil, argued that his client had been cooperating with investigators since 2021 and had complied with all requirements of the probe agency. The defence further submitted that all relevant documents were already in the ED’s possession, and therefore custodial interrogation was unnecessary.

While granting bail, the court noted that it had earlier observed the material on record—including witness statements and documentary evidence—which, at a prima facie level, suggested the involvement of Kundra and Dubai-based businessman Rajesh Satija in offences punishable under the PMLA. However, the court did not find grounds to deny bail at this stage.
The case pertains to an alleged Bitcoin-related financial irregularity that has been under investigation for several years. Legal proceedings in the matter will continue as the court examines the evidence submitted by the ED, while Kundra remains out on bail pending further hearings.
