Switzerland Fully Backs India's AI Ecosystem, Says President Parmelin
Swiss President Guy Parmelin praised India's AI leadership and called for stronger bilateral trade collaboration.
In an exclusive interaction, Guy Parmelin praised India’s rapid strides in artificial intelligence and said Switzerland fully shares New Delhi’s vision of building an impactful and responsible AI ecosystem. He commended India for positioning itself as a global leader in emerging technologies and emphasised the importance of innovation-driven partnerships between the two countries.
President Parmelin said India’s focus on digital transformation and AI governance has created new opportunities for cooperation. “We commend India for its leadership in artificial intelligence,” he said, adding that Switzerland sees strong potential for collaboration in research, innovation, and technology exchange. He underlined that both nations place high importance on ethical standards and sustainable development in the tech sector.
Beyond technology, the Swiss president highlighted the steady growth in bilateral trade between India and Switzerland. He noted that economic ties have strengthened in recent years, supported by investments, joint ventures, and increased business engagement across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, engineering, finance, and clean energy. He expressed optimism that trade volumes would continue to rise in the coming years.

Parmelin also pointed to the role of innovation ecosystems in both countries, saying partnerships between academic institutions, startups, and industry leaders can further accelerate growth. Switzerland, known for its advanced manufacturing and research capabilities, is keen to deepen cooperation with India’s expanding technology and startup landscape, he said.
Reaffirming Switzerland’s commitment to closer ties, the president expressed hope for broader collaboration in areas such as sustainability, green technology, and digital infrastructure. He added that stronger India–Switzerland relations would not only benefit both economies but also contribute to global innovation and responsible technological progress.
