Gujarat CM visits Micron, Google, discusses AI and skilling in US.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and a state delegation met senior representatives of major technology companies during the third day of their ongoing US visit, with discussions focusing on semiconductors, artificial intelligence, youth training and data security. The visit is linked to preparations for the Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2027 and is aimed at strengthening the state's engagement with global technology and business communities. Patel also held a separate meeting with Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas and interacted with members of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) in Silicon Valley.
During the delegation's visit to Micron, company chairman Sanjay Mehrotra appreciated the Gujarat government's support for the semiconductor company's operations in Sanand. Mehrotra particularly acknowledged the state government's approval of 20 acres of land for the facility within a day and its efforts to facilitate the early commencement of commercial production. Patel highlighted the growing importance of Sanand and Dholera as semiconductor destinations and recalled the inauguration of Micron's semiconductor facility at Sanand by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2026.
The discussions with Google focused heavily on artificial intelligence and skill development. Google vice-president Chandu Thota expressed interest in collaborating with Gujarat on youth skilling and AI training programmes for teachers and students. The delegation and company representatives also discussed potential applications of artificial intelligence in agriculture, including the analysis of crop patterns, climate conditions and soil-related information. Such applications could help expand the use of technology in areas such as agricultural planning and resource management.

Data security was another key issue discussed during the meeting with Google. Company officials briefed Patel and senior Gujarat government representatives on the possible use of Google Workspace Sovereign AI. The discussions reflected the state's broader interest in developing technology capabilities while also focusing on secure handling of government and institutional data. The proposed areas of collaboration could potentially support the state's efforts to build stronger digital infrastructure and improve technology-based public services.
Patel's meeting with Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas centred on the possibility of the artificial intelligence company establishing a presence in Gujarat for engineering and research and development activities. The two sides also discussed the possibility of setting up a data centre in the state. Srinivas expressed interest in exploring a hybrid arrangement involving a developer and Perplexity for such a facility, potentially adding another technology-focused investment opportunity to Gujarat's outreach efforts.
The chief minister also met members of TiE Silicon Valley, where discussions focused on healthcare and skill development. TiE members expressed interest in collaborating with Gujarat to train healthcare workers and expand youth skilling initiatives using AI tools. Chief Secretary M.K. Das, senior state government secretaries and other members of the delegation accompanied Patel during the engagements. The meetings are part of Gujarat's wider international outreach ahead of the Vibrant Gujarat Summit-2027, with the state seeking partnerships and investments in emerging technology sectors.
